Biography

Juli Suàrez (Girona, 1967) is a producer, director, and screenwriter with an established career in independent cinema, focusing primarily on short films and auteur-driven documentaries. His work combines a distinct personal style with a consistent track record in production, encompassing over 20 cinematic projects that have been selected for and awarded prizes at both national and international festivals, including nominations for the Goya Awards.

As a producer, he has championed a body of work centered on contemporary short films, collaborating with various directors and solidifying an independent production model with a strong presence at festivals worldwide. His recent work includes the production of award-winning short films featured at major festivals, as well as projects that support emerging talent and auteur cinema.

His work is defined by an approach that straddles the line between fiction and documentary, exploring themes related to memory, identity, and contemporary social tensions—a thematic thread that runs through both his own directorial projects and the films he produces.

He studied Production, Audiovisual Communication, and Documentary Studies at ERAM (University of the Arts at the University of Girona). He has also participated in film directing workshops led by Abbas Kiarostami, Asghar Farhadi, Patricio Guzmán, and Isabel Coixet.

He is a member of the Spanish Film Academy (Academia de las Artes y las Ciencias Cinematográficas de España), DOCMA (Spanish Documentary Film Association), and ACCIÓN (Association of Film Directors of Spain).
